This charming collection by a Singapore poet gives a fascinating insight into an engaging, sensitive poetic personal. The poems have a clarity and fluency which belies their craft, they are conveniently arranged into three parts ranging from personal pieces of family, to the city, and the wider world beyong. The ifrst part contains several pieces on the family, including Journey’s End, a moving, emotional tribute to his deceased mother. The second part contains poems on familiar sights and cityscapes of modern and cosmopolitan Singapora, and her little nostalgic coeners. The poem, Temasek, is an interesting attempt to trace the early beginings of what has become a modern city state. A large part of the collection contains poems of extensive travel over the years to various parts of the world, including some gems on Malaysian towns. The poet is a lawyer and former political detainee, with a strong and abiding interest in politics, history and literature.
