Malaysia, with about 60% total forest cover, has the potential to play a significant role in the development of Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation (REDD) related carbon mechanisms. Hence, the country needs to formulate a provisional national position for effective participation in future negotiations. For this purpose, the National Workshop on REDD 12 March 2009 in Kuala Lumpur was jointly organized by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (NRE), Forestry Department Peninsular Malaysia (FDPM), Forest Research Institute Malaysia (FRIM) and also Institute for Environment and Development, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (LESTARI-UKM). LESTARI-UKM is proud to support the Ministry by documenting the outcomes of the Workshop. We hope that this document serves to enhance understanding on REDD and facilitates the process of developing national positions on the issue. For Other Countries: SGD17.50
