马来亚共产党是新马未分家之前的马来亚最早出现的现代政党，根据党所发表的文件显示，党的活动历史可分为以下几个时期，即：

战前地下斗争时期（1930年4月建党至1941年12月）
抗日战争时期（1941年12月至1945年8月）
战后和平时期（1945年8月至1948年6月）
抗英民族解放战争时期（1948年6月至1957年8月）
国内革命战争时期（1957年9月至1989年12月）
和平民主斗争时期（1989年12月《合艾和平协议》签署后---）
