Dr Syed Husin Ali is a Malaysian political activist who is a member of the State Assembly elected by the Selangor State Assembly. At the grassroots level he is the former Deputy President of the People's Justice Party (PKR) after the merger of the People's Party of Malaysia (PRM) with the National Justice Party (keADILan). He was President of the People's Party of Malaysia (PRM) before joining the party.
He was born in Batu Pahat in 1936. He has a wife and three children. Obtained a B.A. Hons and M.A. from the University of Malaya (UM) and a Ph.D from LSE. Became the Vice President of KEADILAN 2003-2010; former PRM President for 13 years since 1990. Because of his active involvement in politics, he resigned as a professor in the Department of Anthropology and Sociology, UM after serving at UM for nearly 30 years.
