Techniques of Literary Translation | Beginners' Workshop

-0% Techniques of Literary Translation | Beginners' Workshop
Dates: 16 and 23 August, 2020, Sundays (Two Sessions)
Time: 2PM to 4PM

In our multilingual cacophony, it can be difficult to translate the nuances of culture, wordplay, patterns of expressions and trains of thought from one language to another. Dr Lalita Sinha's two-part interactive workshop offers an introduction to some of the challenges associated with Malay to English translation. In this workshop, you will compare excerpts from original and translated texts, complete assignments and decipher strategies.
Dr LALITA SINHA studied world literatures at Universiti Sains Malaysia, Penang, and continued graduate studies in Comparative Literature at the same institution. She retired as USM's Senior Lecturer in Comparative Literature and Comparative Religion in 2006. One of her books, 'The Other Salina: A. Samad Said’s Masterpiece in Translation' (2006) has been highly commended by Malaysian National Laureates and was awarded the Best Scholarly Book (Humanities) category by Majlis Penerbitan Ilmiah Malaysia (MAPIM), the scholarly book publishers council of Malaysia.

Please register by 11:59PM on 9 August. We will email you a Zoom link before 15 August.
