Scholarship In Transformation by Syed Arabi Idid
Dr Syed Arabi Idid is a Professor in the Department of Communication, Kuliyyah of Islamic Revealed Knowledge and Human Sciences, International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM). He became Dean of the Research Centre in July 2001 and was later appointed as Rector of IIUM from 1st June 2006 until 31st May 2011. He was at the Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) for 22 years before joining IIUM in 1999. Before joining UKM, he was reporter with BERNAMA from 1968 to 1971
At UKM he was the Head of Department Of Communication, and later became Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities.
He holds a B.A. (Universiti Malaya), M.A and Ph.D (University of Wisconsin, Madison, USA). He is a member of the Board of Director and member of the Asian Media Information and Communication Centre (AMIC). At the local level, he was once the President of the Malaysian Communication Association, and the President of the Institute of Public Relations Malaysia (IPRM). He was also a judge for several years in selecting the best journalist organised by the Malaysian Press Institute (MPI) .
He has conducted numerous studies on public opinion, political campaign and General Elections, public relations, journalism , international communication and market research. Currently he is an Adjunct Professor with School of Media and Communication Studies, Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, UKM.
