Combo: The Rohingya
Read as an act of resistance against ignorance and injustice.
During Malaysia's Movement Control Order in April, smear campaigns and propaganda were launched against the Rohingya refugees from Myanmar. These campaigns not only failed to understand the social and economic impact of hosting Rohingya refugees (and refugees in general) in Malaysia, but also contain much historical revisionism, disputing the very injustice of the decades-long, “slow-burning” genocidal campaign they have faced at the hands of their government, including a military crackdown in 2017 that forced many to flee.
This combo, comprising a novel, an important collection of essays and a collection of poems, is an inoculation against misinformation. Together they describe the realities the Rohingya community faces and should assist the reader towards taking a stance on this issue that is rooted in knowledge, compassion and a respect for human rights.
Books in this combo:
- No Rohingya: A Novel
- Essays on Myanmar's Genocide of Rohingyas (2012-2018)
- Voices of the Displaced: Poems from the Malaysian Migrant Poetry Competition 2015-2016
